‘No coffee, huh?’
My friend asked. Usually, there are two or three cups of yesterday’s coffee sitting on the desk. I silently pointed to one of them.
‘You shouldn’t drink coffee after a day. Let’s grab a fresh one.’
So, we stepped out of the building’s front entrance again.
‘I always come here. Sunhwa Store.’
It was a café right in front of the building, but I never knew its name. A cute place with a yellow sign and a clover drawing, the takeout coffee specialist ‘Sunhwa Store’.
While waiting for the coffee, I sat by the register and looked outside to see the weather was just perfect. I thought it’d be nice to take my coffee and read a book outdoors, but the day hadn’t even started yet. The sunlight glinting off the silver bollards was so bright, it felt like it could be around 2 PM.
A few years ago in Germany, I got lost and passed by an unknown park. I decided to sit on the corner of the lawn to rest, and around me were clovers everywhere. I figured the odds were good to find a four-leaf clover, so I searched for about thirty minutes. The weather was splendid back then too. Even after giving up and napping for an hour, it felt like a day well-spent. Who knew I’d encounter such gorgeous weather again, this time in Seoul.
Watching the coffee being brewed, I noticed the ceiling lights were pretty. As I took some photos from different angles, she asked, ‘Do you like it?’
‘Yes, they’re beautiful.’
‘Would you like to have it?’
She mentioned it was the day to close the café. The lease was up, business wasn’t booming, and she planned to move everything out this afternoon.
‘Opening another café somewhere else? Where to next?’
‘Haha, will you visit?’
It felt strange to find out it was closing day on my first visit. But hey, it’s a perfect day for moving.
I hope she does even better wherever she goes next.
