Bike Chain Lock

I just bought a chain lock.

I had a bike lock before, but it was always a hassle to carry it in my bag. Often, I’d end up forgetting it when I switched bags. So, last week, I ordered a chain lock that could be mounted on the bike’s seat post. 🚴‍♂️

“But, the mount keeps sliding down the seat post.”

The new lock came with a mount to secure it. All you need to do is fix this mount to the seat post with two screws. However, it seemed my bike’s seat post was thinner than usual, so the mount kept slipping. Even with some cardboard wrapped around it, it didn’t help. 📦

“Paper won’t do the trick.”

The elderly gentleman muttered this and then pulled out some soft, thin foam from his fishing kit. He cut it roughly by eye, and surprisingly, it fit perfectly in the mount. 🎣

“Wrap this inside; it won’t slip. Now, tighten the screws.”

I tightened the bolt with all my strength. 🔧

“No, you don’t have to tighten it that much. Just until it feels snug.”

Could it really be that simple? It feels like it should be tighter… Even a kid could figure that out. But there’s a certain wisdom that comes with experience that can’t be ignored.

“Now, try nudging it up and down a bit.”

Surprisingly, it felt solid and didn’t move. There are countless ways to solve a problem, but nothing beats the wisdom gained from experience. 🌟

When a designer was asked about the secret to making a good logo, they said, “It should be clear, even when it’s small.” I believe that one line sums up everything about logo design. 🎨

“Thank you.”

I thanked him and went outside, placing the new chain lock in its mount. It clicked into place firmly. With a light heart, I rode my bike home. No rattling from the back. 🚴‍♀️

“I could hang a hammer on this.” 🔨

It’s a shame I have no need to carry a hammer. I pedaled, thinking about what else I could hang back there. Nothing came to mind, but it felt good. At least I no longer needed to carry the chain lock in my bag. Once home, I checked the lock, and then,

“What? It’s slipped down?”

The mount had slid all the way down to the seat post clamp; that’s why it felt secure. I called the elderly gentleman.

“It’s slipping down.”

….

“You should’ve tightened it.”

….

Why are you doing this to me, sir?
