In summer, it’s all about the guitar, no matter what anyone says. 🎸 When I’m stepping out and beads of sweat start forming on my forehead, I always have Depapepe’s tracks playing. From ‘Summer Parade’ to ‘Kiss’, they’re my go-to jams.
There’s this show called ‘The Sea I Wished For.’ Suddenly, thanks to the YouTube algorithm, a clip of The Killers’ ‘Read My Mind’ cover popped up. But Rosé’s voice layered over Zairo’s Depapepe-style guitar was so heart-wrenching. For those three and a half minutes, even the upbeat guitar strokes sounded sad. If I had heard this before discovering Depapepe, my ‘Summer Guitar’ playlist might not even exist.
‘Read My Mind.’
When you’re young, you think someone can read your heart like an open book, whether it’s love or not. But eventually, you learn no one can really do that. You wish you’d known from the start, but like a lab mouse bumping into walls while finding its way through a maze, you realize it only after some struggle. It’s the worst. 😔
The protagonist of this song hasn’t escaped the maze yet, asking the one who’s leaving, ‘Can you read my mind?’ Of course, the other person probably has no intention of doing so.
At least for this song, I can confidently say Rosé’s cover in front of the Pohang sea is better than The Killers’ original. She’s as pretty as can be, but her voice is even prettier. 🎶

It’s a recommendation, so you have to listen…
