I Like It Light

When I upgraded my MacBook, I decided to treat myself to a leather pouch. If my bag had a separate pocket for the laptop, I wouldn’t have even considered it. But with a new gadget, I wanted to keep it pristine for a while. Once I make up my mind, I take action. So, I scoured the internet and found a pouch that looked pretty cool, then ordered it on the spot. ‘Might as well go all in…’ meant the price went up, but I was smitten by the tidy yet rugged stitching, clicking the purchase button without a second thought. A few days later, the leather pouch arrived, looking just as stunning as in the promotional pics. But when I picked it up to check the back, oh my, why is it so heavy? It felt like lifting a calf. Were calves always this heavy?

Anyway, I carried it around for a few days, and it felt like the weight of my bag had doubled. Walking around with the bag felt like I was a slave to the bag or just a transport for the pouch, with no sense of ownership. I’m supposed to be as independent as Descartes’ intellectual heir, yet here I was. So, I bravely tossed the pouch into a corner and dug out a shabby faux leather sleeve I got from somewhere. It looked pathetic, but it was blissfully weightless.

‘Just open the pouch while taking it out of the bag and grab the laptop in one go.’

Why didn’t I think of this sooner?

FYI: The MAKR case is ridiculously heavy.
