About six months ago, I stumbled upon a fine-tipped name pen in the office stationery box
Name pens use permanent ink that doesn’t easily wash off, making them perfect for labeling your stuff. Sure, nowadays, except for maybe diaries, there’s not much need to label things, but back in the day, I would obediently write my name on all my belongings as my teacher instructed. Writing with a name pen was quicker and neater than using labels, but the downside was its thick tip couldn’t write small names.
But then, there it was, a fine-tipped name pen! 😍 I was smitten even before using it, and went on a spree labeling everything around me—charger, Apple Pencil, mouse, keyboard. I even imagined crafting a novel on the tiny end of a charging cable with it.
A few days ago, I left my laptop charger plugged into the wall at Starbucks. I had no clue I’d left it behind. Then, the next morning, I received a photo and a message from a stranger. 📷

Hello, are you OOO? I found this at the Sinsa-dong Starbucks. Haha, I’ll leave it at the counter for you!
How wonderful is that? I thanked them and sent a Starbucks coffee coupon as a small token of appreciation. ☕️ Later that evening, I went back to the Sinsa-dong Starbucks and retrieved my charger safely.
Anyway, putting your phone number on items can make it easy to recover lost things, like I did. But recommending this method in today’s world isn’t simple. If the finder decides to misuse your name and phone number for something shady, like creating a fraudulent account (I’m not even sure if that’s feasible) or phishing, it could lead to a lot of trouble.
So, follow your own judgment.
It worked for me, though…
