Just Let Me Be

I’m the type who loses my cool when my feet leave the ground or when my body doesn’t respond the way I want. In those moments, I feel completely drained, like my soul is halfway out the door. 🎢 Because of that, most amusement rides appear more like torture devices to me, except for the merry-go-rounds and bumper cars. Even getting into a car, which I’ve been doing since I took my first steps, requires a deep breath before I get in.

Especially when I’m riding in a car, as soon as I sit down, I feel my energy vanish. (It’s different if I’m driving.) Before the car starts moving, I need to find my most comfortable position as if gearing up for battle. Once settled, I close my eyes and stay perfectly still like a mannequin. People say I look like a lifeless body then (I wouldn’t know). Some might think I’m sleepy, but it’s not that. While I might seem like I’m dozing, my mind and senses are ultra-alert, gathering every bit of information as if wandering through purgatory until I arrive. Bet you didn’t know that, huh?

Occasionally, I find myself in a car with a chatty driver. If we’re close, I can just pretend to doze off, but if not, it gets awkward. I’d appreciate it if they could catch on from my lackluster responses, but not many people are that considerate. Actually, none are.
