Dinner Time #2

Tonight, I decided to order a sushi set from a different Japanese spot than the other day. Despite it being winter, this place includes soba noodles in their set. The previous joint didn’t offer soba, blaming the chilly season. But hey, it’s only been three days, and it’s hardly summer now, right? From now on, I’m sticking to this place for my sushi sets, at least during winter. 🥢

While I was contemplating my choice, a solo diner next to me received the same sushi set. But wait, what’s this? A wooden plate with extra tamago sushi on the side? Why didn’t I get that? Did I miss some secret code? Maybe it’s a bonus for booking through Naver? Or perhaps you need to snap a pic and tag them on Instagram? I couldn’t find any such challenge online. Too shy to ask the diner beside me, I didn’t want to reveal my lack of ordering skills. I decided I’d subtly ask at the counter. Once my curiosity kicks in, I can’t rest until I know. So, I devoured 10 sushi pieces, udon, soba, and even dessert yokan at lightning speed. I barely tasted a thing before swallowing. 🤯

With my meal conquered, I bundled up with my scarf, threw on my coat, and slung my bag over my shoulder as I approached the counter.

‘That’ll be this amount,’ the cashier said, and as I handed over my card, I casually asked about the tamago sushi. The cashier looked at me as if it was the first time anyone had asked that question. So, I pointed to the diner next to me and explained again. The cashier replied,

‘Oh, they ordered that separately.’

Ah, Eureka! So that’s how it works! I had no clue. Brilliant! 🧠✨

‘You’re quite clever, care to work with me?’

was what I wanted to suggest to the diner beside me, but then again, I had no real idea of what we could actually do together, so I left it at that. 😅
