Master of Solo Fun

During lunch with a junior colleague, we were chatting about how I spent the entire weekend lounging around at home. I have a knack for this kind of thing, so I could talk about it for half a day straight. 😄

“Remember how it rained all day Sunday? So, I stayed in. Not that I wouldn’t have otherwise.”

– Yeah, I stayed in too. Honestly, it’s busier at home, right?

“Exactly. I watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix.”

– I binge-watched Life on Mars.

I didn’t want to be outdone in content consumption. 📺

“Oh, Life on Mars?”

Oops, my mistake!

She corrected the title and continued slowly.

“I’ve been watching it live. These days, only the Monday-Tuesday and weekend dramas are good. It’s a shame that Wednesdays and Thursdays feel empty.”

– I haven’t subscribed to cable… but if I had, you bet I would have been watching it live.

I felt a bit behind. 📉

“Last week, work was crazy, and I felt so down. But then, over the weekend, I saw myself smiling while watching that drama. It made me feel good.” 😊

Usually, this would lead to ‘Seeing myself smile, I wondered what I was doing,’ but it was unexpected. Had it been the usual, I could have dominated with ‘You’re not doing too bad!’

– Oh, you mean you liked seeing yourself happy because of that drama?

Really, that was the story?

“Yes. So, to keep that feeling, I switched my phone to airplane mode and watched all night.” ✈️

Airplane mode? That’s a whole new level! Even though I’m a veteran at solo fun, I’m not cool enough to disconnect from the world while consuming content. I don’t even use airplane mode on a plane! 🤷‍♂️

I thought I discovered someone amazing
