Stumbled upon a song on random play, and it’s been on repeat all week long. 🎶
We’ll say that we’re right – Lee Kang-seung
Had lunch with two work buddies. One’s an art major, the other is totally into art history these days. 🎨
‘There’s a Ludwig Museum collection exhibition nearby, how about a cultural day out this weekend?’
Even when life’s all about the grind and hustle, remember to embrace yourself. It’s the key to surviving this long journey called life. And indulging in a bit of cultural life is quite effective at that. Most weekends are laid-back, and it’s been ages since my last exhibition, so why not? Excited to hang out with friends whose MBTI is P (just like mine) at the exhibit. Whether it’s Saturday, Sunday, or even this weekend, no one’s said for sure, but it doesn’t matter. 😊
And then Friday arrives. If it’s this week, I’d hear from them today. If not, then maybe not this week. As I ponder over a last-minute invite, a message from one friend arrives.
‘See you on Saturday!’
Normally, that would be enough, but I had evening plans this Saturday, so I had to reply.
‘What time are we meeting?’
After a short pause, the reply came:
I almost passed out from excitement
LOL, I totally got it and felt a bit sorry. 😅
‘Also, I found a great music lounge, wanna go there too?’
We had already mentioned going to a great eatery in Seongsu after the exhibit. But now a music lounge too? Can all this fit into one day? Suddenly, I felt overwhelmed. But I didn’t know how to say let’s skip it.
I was unexpectedly drawn to Modigliani’s ‘Woman of Algiers’ at the exhibition. Most of Modigliani’s portraits lack pupils. Was it overwhelming for him to meet the model’s gaze while painting? Yet, the woman in this portrait had her eyes painted, making me wonder who she was to him.

Behind the exhibition exit, there was a place selling merch, and my friends seemed deep in thought about what to buy. I wasn’t really interested, but seeing them pick something up, I felt compelled to do the same. Conformism, modeling, herd mentality. I’ve never strayed from these sociological theories scholars generalized. In a hurry, I picked a pencil from the adjacent display, only to realize it’s a carpenter’s pencil. Never made anything from wood in my life. 🛠️
There are a few books I’ve been reading on and off for ages without giving up on them. One is Hope Jahren’s ‘Lab Girl’. Had some time today to read a bit more. (Finding where I left off takes forever, and often I find myself rereading parts I’ve already read.) After about thirty minutes, I stopped to explore the e-book’s features – I’m not one to read continuously – and stumbled upon some old highlighted passages. 📚
Every lush tree started as a seed that refused to give up waiting.
Of course, I have no memory of reading this.
After enduring continuous rain and typhoons, we’ve had a few clear days. With another typhoon on the horizon, I eagerly headed out for a bike ride, and under the blazing sun, cicadas were in full chorus around the apartments. I must’ve been too used to it to notice before. But when it comes to summer, nothing beats the blazing sun and the overwhelming sound of cicadas. Without it, it just wouldn’t be summer. And this summer is still in full swing.
