Diary 2023-12-17

Last weekend felt like late autumn. Just a hoodie was enough. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Can you believe a warm breeze in mid-December? ‘Isn’t global warming really serious?’ I thought, pedaling away on my bike. But after a couple of days trapped in rain, I suddenly realized winter had settled in. The news says Siberian cold is coming next week. Trying to embrace it with, ‘Isn’t it better than global warming?’ but there’s no denying I hate the cold. ๐Ÿฅถ

Unusual weather is appearing all over the globe, not just here. Europe is experiencing an unusually warm winter too. I saw an interview where a European citizen said, ‘I think winter should be winter-like.’ I wanted to tell them to just enjoy the warm days while they can! ๐ŸŒž

Earlier this year, I believed that only comprehensive data could provide accurate answers. Services like ChatGPT, which have limited learning data and time, struggled with real-time questions. But now, it’s possible to connect various technologies based on NLP to return real-time search info or embed extra data. Services applying these frameworks are being introduced. The fact that machines can structurally understand human language is the beginning of a massive innovation. ๐Ÿš€ What kind of world is coming? One thing’s for sure: no one can slow down this spinning wheel. ๐ŸŒ€

Recently, I watched the movie ‘Leave the World Behind’ on Netflix. Despite its low audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and mostly negative reviews, I found it quite entertaining. In this movie, humanity faces a disaster unlike any before, leaving the protagonists in panic. There’s a scene where the characters have this conversation:

– There are too many things that can’t be explained by conspiracy theories about a secret group controlling the world.
– Especially when the truth is scarier.
The truth is, no one is pulling the strings.

Since the time of life on Earth, all creatures have perished due to uncontrollable disasters they didn’t create. Dominant species were wiped out by natural disasters like planetary collisions and abnormal weather in an instant. But in the movie, the protagonists face a disaster caused by humanity but no longer controllable. And we’re just a little behind them.

I saw a photo of Baek Ji-young smiling on a celebrity news site, and it felt so familiar. Without realizing it, I was sketching that trademark smile. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sorry, Baek Ji-young.

During workdays, the tension keeps me moving, so I need to unwind on weekends. I love the sounds of a barista making coffee, dishes clinking from washing, and people softly chatting around me, as they stretch the time. โ˜•

That’s why I had a quick breakfast and sat in a nearby cafe, but today, the noise was oddly unbearable. ๐Ÿ“š Even reading didn’t help, nor did music, which only made my head spin more. It’s like being pushed onto a ride that won’t stop through the weekend. Should I just head home or stay a bit longer? Suddenly, a news alert pops up about 130 starlings that suddenly fell and died in Jeju a few days ago. ๐Ÿฆ

This is a bit scary…
