Blue Whale

‘Hey, do you know this song?’

The song called Blue Whale by Yoon Do-hyun. 🎶 The intro, starting with a piano, was playing on the karaoke speakers, but it was my first time hearing it. My friend who came along shook their head, indicating they didn’t know it either. It’s hard to have a conversation in a karaoke room, you know.

‘Oh come on, we should sing together…’

But she bravely started singing this male song without changing the key. 🎤 How did she know such an old track? And for someone as young as a new recruit… it’s not even a band you’d expect her to know. If she’s picking this song at karaoke, she must really like it. Well, it’s not like people never choose songs for others, but none of us knew this one. Anyway, she sang it all the way through without stopping, and we applauded her.

Afterward, I saved it to my playlist and listened occasionally. 🎧 After a few listens, I started choosing this song specifically, and now it’s one of the tracks that’s racking up my streaming stats. By the end of the year, Melon might suggest Yoon Do-hyun Band as a rediscovered favorite, just like how SSAK3 was two years ago.

A path begun in a tiny pond
Hope it reaches the ocean, the ocean
You might get weary on that rough journey
Even though you walk and walk, your steps feel slow When your journey feels too tiresome and tough
Speak up, don’t hide it, you’re not alone
Someday we’ll swim like blue whales
Living fearlessly in this vast world
Being such a person Don’t get hurt anymore, don’t cry, just smile When your journey feels too tiresome and tough
Speak up, don’t hide it, you’re not alone
Someday we’ll swim like blue whales
Living fearlessly in this vast world
Being such a person When your journey feels too tiresome and tough
Speak up, don’t hide it, you’re not alone
Someday we’ll swim like blue whales
Living fearlessly in this vast world
Being such a person Being such a person

I wonder if she realizes how cheesy these lyrics are? 🤔 My unique way of enjoying music involves listening to the intro, the session, and the vocals first, and delving into the lyrics only after streaming it over 100 times. These lyrics turned out to be simple and sincere. No deceit, just pure honesty. No darkness, just transparency. So honest it tugged at my heartstrings. Call it old-fashioned, but I’ve grown to love the song’s lyrics.

The blue whale is the largest mammal on Earth, measuring up to 30 meters and weighing around 150 tons. Yet, this giant never harms other animals and survives on tiny krill and plankton. For this reason, it’s now endangered, much like the Columbia Basin pygmy rabbit. 🌍 However, the blue whale won’t harm or eat other animals to survive. Its way of life isn’t something that changes easily. It simply walks the path of extinction with dignity, grace, and gentleness. I think that’s pretty cool.

If she fell in love with this song as an answer to ‘How should one live?’, that would be touching, but it’s not necessary. There are as many reasons to love a song as there are stars in the night sky, just like there are reasons to love a person. 🌟

By the way, this album was released as a mini-album with the tagline of Yoon Do-hyun singing as a trot rookie, not a rocker. For those who see YB as their number one rock band, you might want to skip the track ‘Love is a Car Accident’. Though the rhythm is catchy and worth a listen… 🎸
