As a kid, I didn’t really have a dream. When asked about future aspirations at school, I’d always say ‘scientist,’ but honestly, it was just a convenient answer to dodge the fact that I didn’t have anything I was truly passionate about. Sure, I liked science, but becoming a scientist wasn’t necessary for me. Wearing that white coat all day? That’s a bit much. Do I really need to stick to one thing forever? I respected the ramen master who cooked noodles all his life, but felt more pity than admiration. Having a job where you wear a white coat and shuffle between flasks all day felt the same. 🤔
Then what do you want to do with your life?
That’s what Mom asked me. I was honest with my parents about not wanting to be anything specific. (They were supporting me, so I couldn’t hide everything.) But, expanding this into a philosophical dilemma was a bit tricky for my young self. Live for something? More than anything, I’m already living. At least I’m not dead, right? When you think about it, the order’s wrong. Instead of ‘do nothing and die,’ it’s ‘if you die, you can’t do anything.’ So ‘since you’re alive, what will you do?’ makes more sense. If I’d been asked that, I might’ve listed what I wanted to do right then and there with a lighter heart. 🌱
There’s a song called ‘Dream of Fry.’ It was first sung by IU as a guest at an Akmu concert in 2014 and never released. Around that time, IU’s profile picture was a fried egg. Chanhyuk asked IU why she had a fried egg as her profile pic, and she explained in detail. A few days later, Chanhyuk crafted this song and gifted it to IU, who performed it at Akmu’s concert. Hats off to Chanhyuk for making such a magical collaboration possible! 🎶
When IU sang this song at the concert, Chanhyuk thought he had given it to her. Later, IU wondered why Chanhyuk hadn’t released it. Fast forward nearly a decade, when Akmu appeared on IU’s Palette, their misunderstandings about the song were cleared. Not long ago, this track was finally released by Akmu. And to think, I didn’t realize how beautiful the lyrics were. 😍
