The Enthusiastic Chef and the Burger House

Did you know the alleys of Seongsu-dong always offer encounters beyond imagination? Every corner you turn reveals a new surprise. What’s even more amazing is finding hidden gems with people queuing up to get a taste. I’m not the best at finding my way, so when I stumble upon a new place, I take a good look because it’s likely I won’t be able to find it again. Even if I try, it might just stay hidden from me forever.

Yesterday, while cycling around Seongsu-dong, I accidentally ended up at a dead-end alley where I discovered a newly opened burger restaurant. The interior was neat, and the menu photos in the window were mouthwatering. The chicken burger looked especially tempting with a photo of chicken breast sizzling in a frying pan. As I stepped inside, the chef greeted me warmly. It was past one in the afternoon, but it seemed I was their first customer of the day. I hadn’t planned on eating, but after that warm welcome, I couldn’t resist ordering. I went for the chicken burger set, grabbed some pickles, a knife, and a fork from the service table, and settled down. With nothing else pressing to do, I didn’t mind the wait. Soon, the chef appeared with a plate of burger and fries.

This is the best burger in the world!

The chef said this with a shy smile. As I was devouring the chicken burger, he reappeared and asked if I preferred my complimentary coffee iced or hot. I chose hot, and soon he returned with an Americano.

This is the best coffee in the world!

This time, he seemed more at ease.

Sipping the coffee, I wondered if a coffee shop might suit him better than a burger house. The coffee wasn’t world-class, but it was pretty good. Maybe that’s why he seemed so at ease? As for the burger, no comment. And honestly, I’m not a coffee connoisseur… ☕🍔
