The Hills of San Francisco

Have you ever heard of San Francisco’s Bus No. 1?

The No. 1 bus (1-California line) cruises along California Street, cutting across San Francisco. Starting from the east in the Financial District, it sweeps through Chinatown, Nob Hill, and Pacific Heights, all the way to the western end at the Richmond District, connecting you to the city’s historic spots. Riding this bus is like being on a rollercoaster, giving you peeks into tourist spots, local neighborhoods, and posh residences. If you’ve got the time, hop on and enjoy the ride! 🌟

Traveling across San Francisco’s hilly landscape towards the pier can be quite the adventure. The city’s buses, known as Muni, gracefully glide over the endless hills, tethered by web-like city power lines. The final hill is particularly daunting, with a slope so steep you might feel like you could roll back just by walking up. Every time the bus pauses at a stop midway up, you can’t help but wonder if gravity will win this time. 😅

The slope is so intense that if you speed up from the bottom without stopping, you might just soar to the sky before falling near Alcatraz. But the bus, like an old ox, pays no mind to such heights and steadily climbs onward. You eagerly await the top, where the only thing left is to coast down to the beach with just a tap on the brakes. 🌊

As you journey towards the pier in the morning, every street crossing welcomes you with sunlight waves, shimmering like silver from the right. It’s a warm, bright energy that fills you up, making you feel light-hearted. Then, as you conquer the final hill only to plunge like an elevator into Chinatown, the low Chinese buildings on either side whip by like scenes from a fast-spinning projector. Is this what teleporting across the Pacific to China would feel like? 🌏

A sudden thought crosses my mind—at the pace the world is changing, maybe quantum teleportation might be possible someday. If everything ends up being conquered, will metaphorical expressions vanish from our world? That would be boring. 🤔
