Not Movies, But the Drama ‘Monster’

Hey, watching any good dramas lately? Have you checked out ‘Monster’? No? Lucky you. Even if you’re not into dramas, come here for a sec and let me fill you in. 🎬

First, let’s talk acting. Shin Ha-kyun is phenomenal as usual, but even the supporting cast delivers performances that will give you chills. You might think, ‘How do these characters even exist?’ But once you’re hooked, any logical thinking you’ve honed over years of science classes just fades away. Logic isn’t always the answer, right? But that’s not the main point. 😉

This drama is filled with smiles from the characters. Yet, every smile feels unsettling, making you wonder and feel uneasy. I found this hauntingly appealing. Knowing why someone is smiling but still not knowing is thrilling. 😏

When watching mystery thrillers, what do you do? You predict, right? We all do. Whether you’re a detective at heart or just along for the ride, everyone tries to guess. If the plot lacks logic, you’ll hear, ‘Does that even make sense?’ But if it’s too predictable, it’s ‘I knew they were the culprit!’ It’s a tough balance. Yet, ‘Monster’ maintains a solid, unpredictable storyline through all 16 episodes. The writer retrieves every clue like a genius, giving a cathartic experience to those stressed by loose ends. đŸ•”ïžâ€â™‚ïž

In thrillers, music is crucial. Whether it’s heightening tension through silent standoffs or exploring dark, dangerous places, the music does half the job. The music director, Ha Geun-young, has a knack for perfectly placing the right B.G.M. Personally, Cho Baek-ho’s ‘The Night’ alongside BIBI’s ‘Timeless’ was the hidden weapon behind the weighty scenes, carrying the drama’s vibe effortlessly. đŸŽ¶

Ever seen The Usual Suspects? It’s an oldie. Yeah, ‘The cripple is the culprit!’ This drama has moments reminiscent of that homage. It might be a bit much, but it’s definitely dramatic. ‘Wait, is this dude the real deal?’ Anyway, I won’t spoil it. Funny thing, while watching, Shin Ha-kyun’s smile appeared in my dreams twice! And Park Hye-kyung was there too, the singer of ‘Rain’. Don’t their smiles look alike? If Park Hye-kyung smiled less, I might have been a huge fan. No diss, just my taste. 😄

Just a peek at the first episode, and you’ll be hooked till the end. Don’t believe me? Give episode 1 a shot. đŸŽ„
