A Sunny Day’s ‘On Rainy Days’

Yesterday, it rained. The world outside was shrouded in darkness, and whenever I glanced out the window, it seemed like raindrops were either falling or about to fall. Maybe there were moments when it wasn’t raining, but still, yesterday felt entangled with rain all day long, whether it poured or paused. Because of this, I craved Younha’s songs. When it rained, I yearned for ‘On Rainy Days’, and when it stopped briefly, ‘Cloudy’ was my go-to. If I could hear the rain, ‘Umbrella’ was perfect. But there I was, lying in bed all day, unable to move. Laziness is an illness, after all. Even reaching for my phone on the nightstand felt like a chore, and so, I let the rainy day slip away. 🌧️

Today, the weather was stunning from the morning. Everything sparkled under the sunlight. Just like any beautiful weekend, I packed my laptop and slowly made my way to Seoul Forest. At the Han River park, the sun was so bright you couldn’t keep your eyes open without sunglasses. I paused, parked my bike by the river, and searched for Younha’s tracks. I found ‘On Rainy Days’, moved it to the top of my playlist, and basked in the sunlight as I cycled along the river. ☀️

Ahead of me, groups of cyclists whizzed by, and around me, people were gathered, enjoying picnics. Yet, Younha’s ‘On Rainy Days’ made for a surprisingly perfect background soundtrack to this scene. It transformed my ride into something out of a different timeline. The tempo of her music seemed to slow down everything around me—the cyclists, the chatter of those lounging nearby. 🎶

I miss you so much
I can’t even sleep
You’re so cruel

The climax where she sings ‘You’re so cruel’ always sounds like ‘I miss you so much’ to me, no matter how many times I listen. 💔

Today is a sunny day that pairs perfectly with ‘On Rainy Days’.
