Have you checked out My Record on Melon? It’s pretty fun! 🎶
One of my colleagues, a true music enthusiast, asked me about it. I’ve been using Melon for quite a while, but I didn’t know this feature existed! 🤔
“It’s not something you can see all the time; it’s a year-end service summary,” she explained.
In truth, we possess more musical knowledge and experience than anyone else around us—no doubt about it. We often share hidden gems among indie musicians and recommend their tracks to each other. We couldn’t help but feel upset discussing how these indie artists struggle to make a living solely through music, juggling multiple jobs. 🎸
During JTBC’s reality show Superband 2, we were bewildered by the low number of real-time votes. How could the numbers not reflect the talent? Bringing together musicians from the top ranks of Korean music for a competition, yet this is the level of attention? It left us questioning if the music industry here is on the right path. We even joked about adding ‘LoudHotCrazyTheBestVoice of Rock and Roll’ to every sentence in our group chats to draw more interest (though it often confused people). We introduced indie bands to chart-dominated listeners who might never have heard them.
We were ready to fight another civil war for musical diversity. 🎤
“The summary of the year’s music is right at the front. What’s yours?”
Following her instructions, I pulled up the first page of this year’s My Record, and was suddenly frozen. This wasn’t something I could share with a friend who shared my musical philosophy. 😳

My most-listened-to song was “BUNGEE” by Oh My Girl. Before I could hide it, she snatched my phone and just stared at the title. I expected disappointment and criticism, but she remained silent. I looked up, ready for a rebuke, but she simply showed me her phone screen in return. 👀

We both felt a bit relieved, it seemed. Without a word about our top tracks, we respected each other’s musical journey and celebrated our year’s listening habits. I praised her listening hours, and she admired the number of artists I explored. We even joked about how no one else in our circle listened as widely as we did. Just as we thought the Melon My Record sharing had ended peacefully, I stumbled upon some info that tipped the scales.

“No matter how much I try to overlook it, SSAK3 is way too top ten!”
I thought to myself, ‘That’s why I tried to distance…’
‘It means we were close,’ her voice seemed to echo.
Whatever it is, ‘Oh My Girl’ is love. 💖
