‘I really wish you’d play the music that’s on my mind!’
This is what Lee Sang-soon said with anticipation in his eyes during the first episode of ‘Hyori’s Homestay’, when Hyori, in the passenger seat, was rummaging through her music to play. As the music began to play, his face lit up with a big smile. 🎵
‘I was thinking of that song too…’
It felt like pure magic. In just a few minutes driving together in Jeju, she played the very song he wanted to hear out of countless tracks in the streaming universe. Maybe it’s not such a big deal, given they’re a couple and probably listen to similar tunes daily… But that song was ‘White Gloves’ by Khruangbin, and it was the perfect driving music. The guitar session felt like something Lee Sang-soon would think of. No wonder he loved it. I quickly added it to my playlist before the title slipped my mind.
Once, I was at a cozy café, waiting to order coffee. The barista, busy with the music, asked me to wait a moment. With no one behind me and plenty of time, I nodded and glanced at the menu. Out of nowhere, I craved Patty Smyth’s ‘Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough’. Then, suddenly, that very song started playing from the café speakers. That’s not something you experience every day. ☕
Listening to that song, I ordered an Americano and waited for a friend. They arrived thirty minutes late, but I still remember that day as pretty awesome. Thinking back, it’s like holding a lottery ticket with the first four numbers matching. 🎟️
Sharing a love for the same music is truly something special. Maybe that’s why people share their favorite tunes with loved ones. It’s not always easy, as everyone’s tastes are as diverse as the stars. Peeking into someone else’s playlist feels like reading their diary—fun but rarely do I add their songs to mine. Except, of course, when it’s a celebrity playlist like Lee Hyori’s; I might snag a track or two. 😄
