Cleaning Up

Ever get that itch when you can’t remember where you put something you bought ages ago? 😅 You pause everything, flip the room upside down, and most of the time, you find it. Why? Because I’m not one to easily toss things away.

It’s usually those old gadgets that you suddenly want to find again. Once I do, I give them a little love—charge them up, update their firmware or software. There’s something oddly satisfying about watching that battery bar fill up or the upgrade progress bar moving forward. It’s like seeing a kid grow up and suddenly fitting into their middle school uniform. Not that I’ve experienced that, but you get it, right? Once I’ve brought these devices back to life, I can’t help but think, ‘How could I let something so useful sit in a drawer for months?’ So they end up on my desk or proudly displayed on a shelf.

A few weeks go by and the desk, the shelf, even the floor gets cluttered with stuff again. That’s when the urge to clean hits me. Just like yesterday, it struck out of nowhere. With minimalism being the trend, I thought I’d box up some unused items. But by the end of it, the box was still empty. 😅

‘Just stacking things neatly isn’t really cleaning, is it?’

Or maybe, just maybe, it is.

Even though my so-called cleaning ended with placing things back as if they were stars in the night sky, I’m sure they’ll be scattered all over the place again in a few months. That’s for sure.

During this cleaning—or should I say, reorganizing—I stumbled upon a Moomin on a drink cap. I couldn’t throw it away, honestly, who could? Having something that cute staring up at me from the trash? No way, that’s just cruel. 🥺
