Headache

Many people are quite familiar with frequent headaches, but since I’m not that type, it freaks me out whenever my head starts to pound. The brain seems like the most complex of all organs, so once it goes wrong, recovery might not be a walk in the park. 😟

I once read an online article about actor Ahn Jae-wook who had a brain hemorrhage while traveling in the U.S. and had to undergo surgery there. Apparently, he suffered from severe headaches before the incident. The condition was ‘subarachnoid hemorrhage,’ a type of stroke caused by a burst brain aneurysm, with two-thirds of cases resulting in sudden death on the spot. Strokes caused by narrowing blood vessels can be detected beforehand to some extent.

‘Oh. Could this be a stroke? Better call an ambulance first..’ 🚑

While early response is possible in such cases, strokes from burst blood vessels can lead to immediate paralysis or unconsciousness, leaving you with almost no chance of survival if alone. Ahn Jae-wook, being a busy guy, probably had people trying to reach him, wondering, ‘Why can’t I get through? Could it be a brain hemorrhage?’ Eventually, they saved him. But for an ordinary person like me, it might take days for anyone to even notice I’m down. So, being busy isn’t always a bad thing.

Although it’s not a stroke, one of my friends occasionally dislocates her knee when she trips over a bump or obstacle. I mean, how does a knee pop out so easily? It’s not like an earphone hanging off your ear. 🎧 Initially, it was quite a hassle, but now she handles it like a pro. Turns out, she has a pretty clear response manual for it.

Just find someone nearby who looks strong and say, ‘Oh, it’s fine. It’s just my knee. Could you pull my ankle a bit?’ Popping a knee back in is something you see in movies. If both the dislocator and the helper are rookies, it takes longer than you think. The helper worries, ‘Is this too much force?’ or ‘What if the leg comes off?’ Meanwhile, the dislocator might follow the pull, fearing the knee might pop out more. In such cases, don’t expect them to fix the bone for you. Use them as a leg clamp. With a swift move of the thigh in the right direction—instinctively you’ll know—it’s done. A ‘pop’ sound signals the end. 💪

Experience is something you can’t easily overcome with mere learning. But unlike a dislocated knee, a stroke isn’t something you can experience occasionally, and if it happens, you might bid farewell to the world before getting used to it. Perhaps being busy is the only answer. Or maybe going for a loan shark… 😅

A few days ago, my head suddenly hurt so much that I was in a panic. Having never experienced it before, I was terrified and clueless about what to do. After lying on my desk for a while, I decided to head out to a hospital without really knowing where I was going. 🌧️

While walking, I saw a convenience store offering a discount on chocolate at the display. For no particular reason, I bought the one-plus-one promo chocolate, stuffed one in my bag, and tore open the other, shoving it into my mouth. I kept thinking, ‘Why isn’t this working?’ At the time, I was too dazed to realize how off I was, but looking back, I wonder if my brain was taken over by a parasite. 🐛

Once in the neighborhood, I stopped by a pharmacy to get some headache medicine, went home, and crashed on the living room floor for about an hour. When I woke up, it was already dark outside, and my headache had vanished without a trace. Suddenly, I was starving, so I put on the coat I had tossed aside, slipped on my shoes, and slowly headed to the elevator. As I stepped out of the apartment entrance, a gentle breeze brushed my face. It had been so long since I felt such a pleasant breeze. Though my personal headache manual still seemed unprepared, I was grateful to be alive. 🌬️
