The King of Solo Play – 2

Had lunch again with my buddy, the king of chilling solo. Today’s hot topic? Not much fun stuff around lately, and nothing really sparks the desire to do something. 🤔

‘Is it really a good thing that people are living longer and longer?’

– True, as you age, most experiences just repeat, making it feel more monotonous.

‘But I think I’ll live long, and that worries me. My family tends to live long lives.’

– Really?

Honestly, I felt a bit envious.

‘My grandpa is 93. He walks so slowly that I worry the subway doors might close on him. But other than that, he’s fit as a fiddle!’

– Haha. Even if you live long, couldn’t you find something fun to do?

‘But there’s nothing like that for me.’

– Maybe travel a lot…

‘I don’t get why people travel. Especially staycations (spending holidays in nearby hotels instead of traveling far) make no sense. Isn’t staying in a hotel room pretty much the same as being at home?’

True that. Even when setting out on a trip, I often imagine the comfort of lying in my bed at home. 🛌

‘Whenever I attend a friend’s wedding on the weekend, I rush home as soon as it ends. I just can’t wait to change into pajamas and hit the bed.’

– Totally get that. Even when I bike for exercise, I don’t go far. You never know when you might want to head home. The farther you go, the longer the dreadful way back. So, I just bike in circles around my neighborhood. That way, home is always a short ride away.

‘Oh, that’s so mathematical!’

Last time, she totally crushed me in our content consumption contest, but today feels different. 🤞

‘I’m pretty fast at work too. Never done things slowly or half-heartedly.’

We were talking about laziness, but suddenly, she’s bragging about her hard-working nature… But I couldn’t lose today, so I dug through memories of efficiently getting work done. Meanwhile, she kept talking.

‘… I finish work quickly so I can indulge in laziness.’

Wait, the topic wasn’t changing! I had to act fast or risk losing again today. Just as I was about to share another lazy story to regain ground, she spoke sincerely.

‘If my life turns into a mess, it’ll probably be because of my laziness.’

She was someone I could never beat in laziness.
