Yesterday morning, just like flipping a switch,

Winter arrived. ❄️
Having some errands and wanting a bit of exercise, I rode my bike to work. I remembered my friend mentioning a cool new café in Gyodae. It’s just about a fifteen-minute bike ride away. The café called ‘Gongmihack’ had a charming little terrace and a rooftop that caught my eye. My friend said their bread was delicious. 🍞 I spent about an hour there before heading home. Despite it being midday, the chill outside felt like the break of dawn. On the way back, my hands froze, forcing me to stop several times, which felt so unfamiliar. No matter how cold, gloves didn’t immediately come to mind because, in my head, it was still ‘autumn.’ 🍂
The evening news announced a ‘cold wave warning.’ This morning, even with an extra jacket, I felt the biting cold. 🥶
In 2015, Christmas Eve was snatched away from me. I boarded a flight to Australia from San Francisco on December 23, and the International Date Line stole that year’s Christmas Eve from me. 🎄 As a result, 2015 was devoid of Christmas Eve tree-lighting ceremonies and the fireworks at Darling Harbour.
This year’s autumn feels like that lost Christmas Eve, stolen away. I hope soon someone realizes there was a mistake and returns just a bit of that warm weather where I can enjoy a beer by the Han River. 🍻
