A Bonus Fall

Earlier this week, it rained a few times and before I could even catch a whiff of autumn, winter sneaked in. I might have missed it, but surely there were some days with that autumn vibe. Facebook and Instagram were all about those vibrant fall leaves, after all. 🍁

This week, with the ‘With Corona’ phase, evening plans started rolling in, and year-end tasks kept me busy. The weekdays just flew by. On the weekend morning, as I dragged myself out of bed, the chilly wind outside sent me scurrying back in, and I slept like a log all day. 😴

Around 5 PM, a delivery message woke me briefly. I thought, ‘Even on weekends, they work so hard!’ and felt grateful. Then, I dozed off for another two hours. When I finally got up, feeling refreshed, it was like I had exchanged a beautifully folded Saturday, coin-sized, for an energy drink from a vending machine. 🌟
Opening the window, I saw the World Tower twinkling under the darkening sky. There was a lot of talk when it was being built, like surrounding buildings would sink, or planes might crash into it. Yet, it stands tall, unbothered after years. If a space war ever starts, that building splitting in half, toppling from the top to the ground, would be the opening scene. For a while, I watched the tower, imagining it signaling an invasion with Morse code, then crawled back to bed. πŸš€

This morning, I woke up even earlier than yesterday. I had slept so much, I couldn’t keep my eyes shut any longer. Like a shopper eagerly waiting for a Black Friday store to open, or a kiss enthusiast holding a loved one, waiting for the New Year’s countdown, I waited for the outside to brighten up just a bit. When it was light enough to recognize shapes, I stepped out, and the air was surprisingly warm. Suddenly, I thought, ‘Is this the season operator’s last fall experience service for people like me?’ I guess autumn is the sponsor. πŸ‚

(Ring, ring…)
– Hello, this is autumn. Could you release autumn weather again around November 14th?
‘Hmm, the air’s already cold, and it might cost a lot.’
– How much?
‘You’ll need to turn off the Siberian air conditioner and push up the Pacific warmth. Plus, you’ll need to blow out the cold air that’s already filled in. It’ll be about fifteen hundred.’
– Come on, I’m a regular, can you cut me some slack?
‘Give me a thousand. That’s the best I can do.’
– Thank you. The finances are tight during Corona.
‘What does autumn have to do with Corona?’
– We live off the license of autumn-related content people produce, but these days, everyone’s ignoring autumn…
‘Ah, so one more day of autumn?’
– Yes… It’s tough to make a living.

Though that’s unlikely, should I enjoy a bit more of autumn before the switch completely flips off?
