Do you make a big deal out of birthdays? ๐
I’m not great at that. I enjoy collecting all sorts of info, but managing it neatly isn’t my forte. My storage methods are all over the place. I jot things in a new notebook, type them in a fresh memo app, or save them in Notion. Basically, it’s a chaotic mess. And honestly, I rarely look back at what I’ve written. Maybe I just like the act of writing. Anyway, the same goes for birthdays. Not knowing when a birthday is means I don’t have to worry about picking a gift. I tend to forget everyone’s birthday equally, but sometimes, I accidentally discover someone’s special day! ๐
These days, it’s common for birthdays to be broadcasted on social media. I usually ignore that info. Since I’m not the one sharing it, I don’t feel guilty. But what if I stumble upon an old name in my records and find out their birthday is just around the corner? I suddenly want to give a gift. How about you? ๐
There’s a touch of nostalgia, and I wonder how they’re doing. If their smiling face pops into my mind, I’m even more tempted to send a gift. In this digital age, it’s just a few taps away. Of course, the recipient might think, ‘Why did they send me this?’ Maybe โ and I’m not the best with memories โ things ended on a sour note. Maybe we argued or fell out… That would be even more surprising, right? Worst case, they might say, ‘Who are you?’ That would be a major hit to my pride. So, I debate whether to send the gift. Then I think, ‘Does it really matter?’ and send it anyway. Only to later think, ‘Was that a mistake?’ ๐ค
As I talk about this, I wonder why I go through so many thoughts when sending gifts to people I barely know, while I sometimes don’t even send them to close friends. But hey, that’s just how I am. Of course, if I find out a close friend’s birthday, I do send gifts sometimes. ๐
