Lately, I’ve got a ton on my plate, so I haven’t been able to dive into music like I used to. If we define ‘seriously listening’ as the act of finding music through personal taste research, then right now, I’m just leaning on my existing playlist and letting whatever plays, play. So, what am I listening to?

Waltz #2 (XO)
This track was introduced to me by a manager from a neighboring team during lunch. It’s a song by the 90s folk rock musician, Elliott Smith. The tune captures the musical essence of that era while impressively maintaining a modern flow. The contrast between the upbeat tempo and the melancholic melody is captivating. Walking down the street, you might just think, ‘Is this a Beatles track?’ ๐ถ

Do I Need a Reason
This is a sweet pop tune by the Norwegian modern rock band D’SOUND. Thanks to Simone’s clear voice, I end up replaying it two or three times whenever it plays. The signature glassy electric guitar intro feels like a spell, keeping you hooked. It’s from the album Doublehearted, which helped spread their music beyond Norway. ๐ธ

Bad
This track by wave to earth features vocals by Daniel Kim, who I personally adore. His voice has a slightly distorted, deep tone that resonates with me. This level of groove really brings peace to my soul. It’s one of those songs that makes you hit ‘repeat, repeat’ again. ๐ถ

Can You See?
Lucid Fall’s ‘Can You See?’ is quite a well-known track. It might just be one of the sweetest songs ever sung by a man. Even the animal-like synth sounds in the latter part are endearing. His recent ambient album ‘Being-with’ has become my go-to when insomnia strikes. (Though sleep still eludes me) ๐

Don’t Say You Love Me
A song by Jeon Jin-hee, sung by Park Ji-yoon, but this is the only track on the ‘Secretly’ album she didn’t sing. Park Ji-yoon’s voice is fragile yet firm, making me curious about Jeon Jin-hee’s rendition of ‘Don’t Say You Love Me.’ Her whisper-like storytelling would have added depth to the tale of unrequited love. ๐

FREAK LIKE ME
CAMO’s track could easily be mistaken for a foreign song if you’re just casually listening. With a mix of sing-rap, trap, and ratchet, CAMO is a well-known rapper in the hip-hop scene. The trendy sound and relentless rap make the 2 minutes and 40 seconds fly by, and yes, there’s even a bit of Korean in the lyrics. Bet you didn’t know that! (I didn’t either) ๐ค

Nothing
This song by Bruno Major fits perfectly with the cool autumn breeze. I started listening because I anticipated fall, but to my surprise, summer just won’t end. Earth, what’s going on? ๐

Sinatra
After listening to Bruno Major’s Nothing, it’s like an unspoken rule to follow it with Forrest Nolan’s Sinatra. It’s just how it goes. ๐ค

SOS
There might be people wondering why I mostly listen to old songs, but hey, I do check out awesome new tracks too. SOS, with Cupid’s composer involved, adds another gem to the easy listening top tier. The soft hook lingers in your mind, making you hum along. ๐ถ

HAPPY
My biggest dilemma these days is whether to come out about enjoying Day6 and QWER’s music. They’re fun and good, but admitting they’re rock is harder than you’d think, especially for listeners with a bit of rock pride. You know what I mean?
That’s it for today.
