The Mystery of San Francisco

Tossed and turned last night, and sleep was a distant dream. The fog rolls into the city at night, making the street outside my studio feel strangely unfamiliar. The chilly breeze slipping through the flimsy window gaps makes this San Francisco apartment feel like it’s never going to be home. If San Francisco by day is like Asgard, the sunny city of gods from Norse mythology, then by night, it’s a gloomy, mist-laden Gotham. 🌫️One thing’s for sure, the night here is a completely different beast from the bright, sunny day. It’s been months, and I still haven’t had a good night’s sleep. It’s eerie. Uneasy vibes. 😟

So, there I was, walking in a daze, when I sensed something odd in front of the BART station. It felt strange, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, so I just stood there staring. 🤔

Why is the escalator going down while people are using the stairs to come up?

San Francisco, just when you think you get it, you really don’t. The day was already dark and cold like an early winter evening, adding to the blues, and now I had to ponder the logic behind the escalator system? 🙄 I just hope the repairman from yesterday’s Montgomery station accidentally flipped the up-down switch wrong after his work. Yet, everyone riding down and those climbing up seemed so at peace. What’s up with that? It’s frustrating, but also intriguing, so I had to ask my local friend walking with me. 🤷‍♀️

“San Francisco really cares about the health of its citizens. That’s why the city council made it a policy to use the subway escalators for going down. There are more accidents going down, and walking up the stairs is great exercise.” 🏋️‍♂️

Made a lot of sense when I thought about it. Why doesn’t Seoul think like this? Maybe they believe unhealthy citizens will be more compliant. Anyway, I wish this would catch on worldwide, just like right-side walking. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

The next day, passing Montgomery station at a similar time, and what do I see?

The elevator is going up! 😲

Honestly, these Americans pretending they know everything really drive me crazy. 😤
