Ticket Time

So, the fan club gets first dibs on concert tickets today? Everyone else can join the frenzy at noon tomorrow.

Listening to my friend who always spills the juiciest info, I thought, ‘Guess I’ll aim for tomorrow.’ And then tomorrow arrived.

‘It wasn’t even an official fan club thing, just a newsletter signup. I missed my shot.’

Oh, so it was that easy. Honestly, I was never a hardcore Oasis fan. I used to think ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ was kinda bland (though now I love it). So I decided not to join the fan club. But if it was just a mailing list, I should’ve done it. 🤦‍♂️

‘Another ticket round at noon today. Not gonna try, are you?’

Actually, the idea of Oasis coming here felt like a legendary music moment, so I was tempted to try. But her question fired me up, and I proudly declared I would. As she packed up her iPad, heading to lunch, she gave me a look like ‘yeah, right’ and briskly walked to the elevator.

‘It might be tough on a smartphone, you know?’

I never got to check if it was hard, because my plan to cut weight by eating just two boiled eggs for lunch all week was ruined when I finally had a real meal.

Before the army stew even started boiling, I was fishing out noodles from the broth. They were as tough as dried somen noodles. My mind was asking, ‘What am I even doing?’ but my body was like a bear stocking up before hibernation, chopsticks moving non-stop. Couldn’t stop myself. I devoured most of the rolled omelet too. My dining partner jumped in, realizing they wouldn’t get any at my pace. I also cleared three plates of side dishes and even fished out the floating bits of fat from the stew. I don’t even like fat… And by then, the ticketing was all over. 🎟️

Update: The friend with the iPad didn’t snag a ticket either. Even with all her effort, the result was the same, and I felt a pang of guilt…
